Coral Koroit opal Koroit opal Koroit opal Matrix Opal...Honduras Koroit opal Quartz with some rutile. Pet wood. This one wouldn't shine. I've tried for 3 years. I'd run it up thru the grits, hit it on the leather with tin, no shine, and back into the redo cup. Over and over. It was a laughing matter, but I didn't toss it for some reason. Finally, the other day, to experiment, I coated my leather with tin, and before it dried I hit it with silicone spray, then took the first rock I laid my hand on to it. It was this piece of wood, and lo and behold, it took a shine. The bottom third was always a sand patch, where you see the crackling texture. Nothing worked on it. Nothing. Now you can't see the pattern for the reflection It's like a miracle...like Curt's aliens circled the space ship over it, and voila! Wonders of wonders, and it's worked on others too. Don't know. Koroit Opal Thanks, Tony

Nice bunch of cabs I seriously love the first stone and the next to the last koroit. Interesting story on the wood, too. Congrats- that's a great shine.

Time heals all things...especially lack of experimental impulses! LOL! Excellent cabs and love that first one!!! Well done from another who has a "redo cup." I salute you for your endurance, Sir!
You won! :-)

Great batch. That Honduran can be fun and frustrating if it had softer spots. The unknown is really intriguing.

Thanks, all! I'd like to get that unknown into the known category, as it has such a rich, subtle pattern. I don't have a clue where I got it. And I do pretty good keeping up with what stuff is, or what box it came out of The older I get the blinder I become to scratches, and pits, and it's just a matter of knowing no matter how hard I try, I'll be sending some back to 1st grade, so it is a real success to find a way to win, once in a while, lol. Funny how you discover a trick to pull a shine of this stone, but when you try it on that one, it makes things worse. I got my first shine off of some crazy lace. Man, what a trip But when I couldn't duplicate it on every rock, I had to start adventuring with different ways of cutting rock. Then I got hooked on koroit opal, and found tin on leather would pull a crazy lace shine, so that is my main play, but it won't work on everything. On some things leather makes crud balls that fuse with the rock, and require a trip back in the redo container Some things I could never get more than a sheen on, will shine with zam on a buff, maybe not like lace, but like Amber says, good enough to express the pattern. Some things are made from anti-shine, and the harder you work it the duller it gets. When you manage to get one of those to shine it is a banner day....but I won't be buying more stock, Jo, lol. Apparently, I have no idea what I'm doing, and may be a ways a way from being a bizzillionaire, lol. T
