So I was working this trade with a member here for my red capped Amethyst for other rocks to add to my collection of things to cut!! and I had told him that the red caps contain iron in them which is rarer then regular Amethyst and can increase prices a little, and how amethyst can go from $5.00 - $60.00 /gr,carat,oz whatever... he sends me this to think about.... www.pelhamgrayson.com/our-featured-products.html#.UG0VfK7Uc_gIt seems that they have "just discovered" what I have had for awhile now and the previous owner had for over 20 years... red amethyst, but they are calling it Auralite 23 Crystal- Stones of the New Consciousness!! check out the site... and the prices, they have cut this down to the point that there is no red left in it and can now pass off regular Amethyst as the same thing because the average person is not going to have it checked out to see if it is this A-23 stuff.... what a world !!!! If anyone out there needs to have their Chakras opened let me know I will now be known as Chef Deli - LLama Rama-Dama-Ding-Dong the Chakra opener!!! <now if I can just remember where I left those old love beads from the 60's....hmmmm....wonder if the wife will miss this bed sheet....>

LOL
Yeah, this Robert Simmons guy goes around and makes up ridiculous names for rocks and minerals and spins a bunch of metaphysical BS about it so the metaphysical vendors can sell it to the Barnum and Bailey crowd for stupid money. I was just having a laugh about this earlier today with a friend who's big into minerals.

Dear Chef Deli, I need my chakras opened, send me all of your stones! Now seriously, I think this new age movement is helping us all in very different ways. People who have lots of money to spend will be completely happy to get their metaphysical stones while the people who sells them in order to supplement their incomes or make a living will get an extra boost and will be very happy with it as well. Now more types of rocks and minerals are available for all in all forms and shapes, they all seem to have some type of metaphysical meanings and the interest for them is growing. If this interest continues and grows who knows, we might even see more advancement in technology that could be applied to our hobbies, like computerized tech tumblers and the like. All I see is happy people with all of these. After all, the metaphysical seems to be working for all of us in a positive way! Dora

I had a metaphysical experience with a rock as a child. My brother threw a rock trying to dislodge a ball from the culvert under my parents driveway. (did I mention he was an all star little league pitcher) As he threw it I looked into the culvert to check his progress. At that moment my forehead met-a-physical rock. Astral experience (I saw stars) I fell into a deep trance and awoke with great wisdom (stay out of the line of fire)

$6.00/lb. - probably paid too much. Comes from around Thunder Bay, Ontario. The stuff burns a hole in your hand there's so much energy coming out of it! I keep it in the freezer.

You clearly are unaware of my science skills... Long drawn out explanation, blah blah equations, the purple in amethyst is from iron. But yes, the iron included amethyst is very nice, and makes my chakras shiver. At some point it received a coating of iron oxide and then resumed quartz growth. I'm tired and my legs are frozen. I'll explain tomorrow.

Thanks Geoff, we can't wait to hear from you! When I look at my piece of amethyst with a 10x hand lens it's very obvious that the red layer is exactly as you describe it. What you see as a layer of red in the photo however is just where the red extends over the edge of the crystal, that's not the thickness of the red layer. That layer is very very thin, and you can easily see that it's just a bunch of tiny flecks of iron oxide. The quartz itself is not red, it's purple. It's just amethyst. The polarity of the iron oxide in the crystal determines whether or not it freezes your Chakras, as apparently yours does, or it burns them like mine does.
