I am planning to make a trip out to Quartzsite this coming January to visit the shows there. I'm hoping to meet up with some of the people here. We did this 2 years ago and it was really fun. I plan on going during the pow wow, January 23 through the 27. If any of you are going to be there chime in on this thread and we can plan to all meet. Tony

I don't like to be the boy who cried wolf (e.g. "I'll be there" -> can't make it) so I won't say I'll be there, but I'd *like* to be there and I'm already sick of the cold weather (been cold 4 days now)

Shawn, someone else can do a better job explaining than I can, but essentially all of southern AZ turns into a giant, all-year rock show. There are shows in Phoenix, Quartzite, Tucson etc, and they rotate vendors etc as well as venues.
There are also gem specific shows, shows for dealers, shows in RV parks, fossil-specific shows and the list goes on. I'd personally love to see a (as complete as possible) breakdown of which "shows" are when and where.
The Denver "show" was actually a number of shows (I was aware of at least 3), for example. These larger cities seem to attract multiple shows that coincide, presumably to maximize commerce not only for the general public but for dealers as well.
It is confusing.

I will be there all of Jan at Desert Gardens in spaces AB22. I will do a BBQ at my booth again this year, the past 2 years it has been on the Saturday of the Pow-wow weekend, but I am open to any day, we just need to set a date for it. I will provide the hamburgers, when it gets closer we can see who can bring what.
Tyson Wells is a big flea market. There are a few rock vendors there, but it is mostly, tools, socks, hats, food................flea market kind of stuff.
The RV show is at or behind Tyson Wells, they were saying last year they were going to change the location, so I am not sure what they are doing this year.
Just down the road a half mile is Desert Gardens, it is another show that is 90% rock or rock related. It runs all of Jan and Feb, alot of vendors leave at the end of Jan. There are about 100 rock vendors there.
The Pow-wow is a 3 to 5 day rock show that is at the QIA building on the other side of the Freeway, there are usually a couple hundred vendors there and it is all over in a few days.
There is also the main event, on the north side of the freeway, another flea market type show.
There is also a couple rock vendors that are permanent and year round in different parts of town.
Hope that helps...............Tony

Mike, it was a demonstration of how "sand-witch" got it's name. As far as the question about Tyson Wells, it is a complex covering a large area. Centrally there is an office (with ATM machines). Across the street is the area where the January gem/mineral, craft and hobby shows are. They each run about 10 days and most dealers stay for all three. On same side as office there are permanent structures with vendors (called Prospector's Panorama I think). Many of these vendors are either permanent or there for entire season. South of them is a large field where they put up a giant circus type tent and hold the RV show. Somewhere in all that they have RV park spaces.

I will be there too. I am trying to make it so I can be out there the whole month this time. I like digging around while I'm out there. I will for sure be there during the Pow-Wow I am just working on the first half of the month.

I haven't phoned for my space at the Pow Wow yet. I don't seem as excited after my problems at the border last time.

It is only October. I'm guessing many SO Cal and AZ members will be going as well as most of the usual suspects.

Yes the camping is still allowed. Did you get all the customs things figured out this time?

Thanks John, I already bought my tickets so I'm there regardless. I'll look you up while I'm there, it'll be good to see you again. Looking forward to getting the saw this week.
