This is a bittersweet story.....A few days ago one of my cats died. We took him to my brother in-law's place to bury him. He has several acres I have only a city lot. He warned me that the "pet cemetary" had allot of rock and that digging might be hard. Sure enough lots of rocks. I notices one had allot of sparkle when I hit it with the shovel. It had so much wet dirt stuck to it I could not tell what it was so I brought it home. I sliced some with the saw and the cabs here are the result. I am not sure but I think it is maybe granite. Whatever it is it took a nice shine. Any clues?.... Attachments:

,my money would be on granite.... The patterns remind me of marble... but marble is softer than granite, so I say granite

looks like granite, smells like granite, tastes like granite, and doesn't stick to my boot like cat poop; so it must be granite, sorry about your loss.

thanks guys for the sentiments concerning the cat. ....a couple things interesting about the rock...first it seems to have a high water content.....when I first cut a slab it was much grayer than after it has been worked....much more white after sitting in the open for a few days.....it is also very grainy....when I am rough grinding at 100 grit itfeels like grains of sand coming lose and moving through my fingers....especialy the little black bits......at any rate here in ohio it is cool when one digs up a rock in the yard that can be made to shine........

I'd say granite too. Had the same sort of trouble while trying to tumble the stuff. Sorry about your cat.
