I've been feeling down lately, due to medical problems my wife has been having. Well, today I got a much needed boost in the mail. An unexpected box of agates from John, Thunder69.
It seems that John has been following my thread about my obsession with Fairburn agates, and he wanted to share some of the agates he has been collecting from creeks and rivers in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Thank you John. I can see why you like your local agates so much. Beautiful banding and fortifications. But I'm afraid you can't convert me. I love my local Fairburns just as much as you love your local "Thunder Agates". Your agates will find a special place in my display. Both the tumble polished and the raw specimens.
I'll post some pics of what John sent tomorrow when I have daylight.
As soon as things settle down over here, I'll get back at ya with a box of my stuff.

Well, I was going to post pics of the material John sent. They've got photoshop all screwed up again. They're trying something new. I cant upload new pics to my album, or get IMG codes to post here. Anybody know how to get pics from picasa to post on here ? I've just about had it with photobucket.

Don, I've been waiting to see those new Fairburns... Picasa works much the same way as Photobucket. But you have to remember, when you post it, remove the "s" after the http at the beginning of the IMG code. ie, [http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/....jpg] etc, etc, instead of https
Jean
PS, I hope your wife is on the road to recovery. Sending some prayers her way.

Finally got photobucket working again. First the box. Don't know how John got all of these to fit in a small FRB. Next are raw, unpolished agates. Some of the tumbled agates. The rest of the tumbled agates.

All are feeling better now. Last night it was Jake's turn. He woke me up at 2:30 this morning, choking and coughing. A few firm pats on the back and massaging his throat, and he was soon back to snoring in his chair. He must have had some food hidden in his blanket for a late night snack, and choked on it.
Before I display these, I'm going to wax the tumbled pieces, and give the raw pieces an acid bath to make the bands and fortifications show up better. The top shelves are still reserved for my Fairburns, but these will get a prominent place on one of the lower shelves. Gonna have to box up more minerals to make space.

Thanks again John. I really did need that boost. I need to run to Menards tomorrow for some fresh acid. I'm going to do 4 or 5 of the raw agates. I've got some Fairburns that need a good soak too. I'll try to remember to get the before pics so I can post before and afters.

I'm with you, one of my RTH friends can always ease my troubles after a hard afternoon of slabbing. Especially last week, when, in the midst of trying diligently to fill obsidian orders, my cranky saw immolated my last OB worthy blade. You good folks eased my angst with lovely photos and kind words, and a whole slew of orders for the rock we love most, our very own Blue G. You see, the blades that I had left were fine for Blue G, so the orders were filled ... And several fine patrons even ordered more! You guys are the greatest! Kris PS: And those Thunder Agates are MARVELOUS!
