I kind of inherited a project of polishing some rock samples for Gy-Roc. The samples include 3 bags of Dino bone, 1 bag of lapis, 1 bag of Picasso, and 1 bag of malachite. Pieces are small to medium chunks and slabettes. The dino is a no brainer but the 3 soft materials I'm thinking would do OK together in the Gy-Roc on low speed with plenty of ceramics. Any opinions?

Could be anexpensive mistake if it doesn't work. Wouldn't it be safter to do 4 seperate runs?

Safer for sure. I will do the dino by itself for sure. I was hoping I could do the other three together so I could justify taking a 10 lb. Gy-Roc from my stock as a "demo" unit. Some of the pieces are a little large for the small (2.5 lb). Gy-Roc.

I've done malachite and lapis together with no problems--not so sure about the picasso.

I tried tumbling Picasso a few years ago, total failure. It grinds down to nothing and won't shine.

I haven't done any of those three materials - too expensive and there's none on the ground in these parts, but I'd be afraid that the marble would beat up the malachite and that the malachite would turn any cracks and pits green in the other two materials. I'm speaking totally from ignorance of course.

why not do the smaller vibe with the piggyback kits so you can tumble it all at once?? I understand having the Tim the Tool-man fever..."more power!!! ahh ahh oooo, but I don't see the real need to open the 10 pound unless you just really want to bust out a 10 pound at which point I say .... 'Pow-errr, ahehh oo oo <thumps chest> go 4 it !!'

Actually I got a little B model ready to start tomorrow with at least one piggy back. I won't be able to do the larger pieces but the guy is getting samples done for free. I'm hoping to sell him equipment, ceramics, and polish (if it works).

Got the B model running with one piggy back. Lapis in one, malachite in the other. I threw the larger dino bone in a MT4 to save time. If the dino is gemmy enough to polish it won't matter which tumbler. I'll run the Picasso and thin slabettes of dino in the next go around in the B. Most of the samples are very thin small slabs. The company makes some high dollar knives, letter openers, and cutlery. If you want to see some nice stuff google Santa Fe Stoneworks.
