The best way to get agates & other rock is to buy them either via the Lapidary clubs see
Final polishing help please! Reply #8 or Mineral Craft North Ltd in Sticky #1 below or other sellers via Ebay.
SMLC sells 2.54mm (1") bits of Montrose Agate for £2 each to club members, i had placed a £75 bid on
a 250mm (10") Highland Park Slab saw (100mm (4") thick max cut), complete with vice & spring feed,
the blade was a bit dished, but could be easily repaired or an additional £60 for a brand new blade still
in box, but because i had lapsed my SMLC membership it was sold for £50, the saw was worth £300, but
i could have bought it privately without going to their auction, as they do not sell to non members period!
I had rock from Mineral Craft North Ltd in Sticky #1 below, i ordered 10kg (22.046lb) of each.
Austrailian Amethyst (Moh's 7.0) 12kg (26.455lb) £98 including Vat & P&P, 75% to be slabbed.
Full of matrix (Moh's 3.0)
South African Rose Quartz (Moh's 7.0) 11.5kg (25.353lb) £89 including Vat & P&P, 80% to be slabbed.
Not tried yet.
Scottish gold Tiger's Eye (Moh's 7.0) 14.5kg (31.967lb) £89 including Vat & P&P, 100% to be slabbed.
It undercuts quite badly mixed hardness (Moh's 3.0), (Moh's 5.0) & (Moh's 7.0).
It probally needs a finer grit than F600, so just got F1,200 Silicon Carbide not tried yet.
