For now, I'm just to look at it. I have thought that there were two large rectangular scenes to cut. I hate to wast the thickness grinding it down however. The thickness also holds out the possibility of making butterfly slabs with a thin blade. These thin slabs might benefit greatly form dark backing/doublet. But, I could easily ruin it. So for now, nothing.

When I received 2 slabs of Victoria stone last year, they were pretty thick too. With the price I paid, I really didn't want a lot of waste so I did the same as you just mentioned, I split the pre-forms with a really thin blade and it worked out perfectly (and doubled my number of cabs)

Yes, it would make much more sense to split the pre-forms than trying to split the slab. I do have the band saw. I also have a .008 blade for my 4" tile saw. Maybe one day this winter I will just do it.

Daniel, I just finished wandering through "plume" on Ebay. Nothing knocked my socks off, although a few were nice. Now that knocks my socks off! Congrats on a great find; I'd be half afraid to cut it.

That's a really nice slab Daniel!
If it were me, I'd hesitate to cut it with a band saw because I don't think I could get a straight cut. Maybe you have a vise for it...
My brother lives in Medford, OR and I've been planning a vist/rockhound trip. I'll have to add the ranch to my list!

I'm with gingerkid, frame it and hang it, or just put it on a small easel.
