My wife loves obsidian and has spent $$$ trying to get primo stuff but we are always underwhelmed with what we receive. We don't have rock shows out east so are limited to buying online which really seems to be the issue. I see lots of nice obsidian on here on this board and am looking for suggested vendors. I'm interested in QUALITY not quantity and want very colorful stuff. We are not shy about spending money on rocks, as our bank account can attest and we have lots of great stuff but the obsidian seems to avoid us. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Tony

The only place I can suggest is Hand 2 Mouth Mining out of California, I am pleased with their quality and I'm sure if you asked, some "special" material could be rranged; they are easy to communicate with.

Since you already obvy know Kris, also Zippy (Alex) in Clovis CA has a bunch of nice stuff. I've seen him selling Mexican royal velvet and also electric blue. I've seen the velvet in person and it's great. Haven't seen the blue in person. He sells at shows (he was the source of Bobby1's beautiful velvet slab) and on ebay -- you could probably contact him through ebay and ask him about what you're interested in. His id is zippyrocks. Good luck on your quest!

Amber and I talked last night and we've agreed to only buy obsidian in person from now on. Guess that'll be on the list for me to buy at Quartzsite this year as you can't find any here on the east coast. Thanks everyone.

There are several families at Quartzsite that bring up Mexican material, and a number of other people that have diggings at Davis Creek, where I believe hand2mouth mine their stuff. Point is, there will be many tons of obsidian for you to pick through at quartzsite., just bring gloves and hope for lots of sun to see all the colors...

Hi I'm from Jacks R Better Rocks perhaps I can help you. If you don't mind answering a few questions maybe we can narrow things down as to type of obsidian you looking for, rainbow, sheen, mahogany etc. also what is its intended use, knapping, cabs etc. I have 40,000 lbs rainbow out in my yard, with that amount to choose from I would think I can find some thing to make you happy. What is it that has disappointed you in the past?? If you can take a few minutes to answer my questions I think we can get on the road to obsidian happiness. This is my first post I hope I did everything correctly. Wendy
