Found it at a lake, the lake was a sand pit at one time. Its sand like a nail will scratch it. Attachments:

if it is wood it is not agatized. nails will not scratch agate.
it could be fossilized with other minerals, such as calcium carbbonate or boron.
rings are common in sandstones however.
