I went for a trip to the Queensland opal fields, I only visited the southern area but I got a good variety of material on my trip, after watching the pro's sawing and cabbing for a week I was keen to get home and try some of my new material. My fossicking was a bit disappointing asin the hole that I dug for three days yeilded 0. But I met some great people who shared some of what they have. One is a miner and he had a patch of material with no fire but nice patterns. The other was a buyer, who was showing me the sawing, thats where the moneys made and he was cutting his best bucket for the year so was pretty happy, and he gave me a bucket of scraps and offcuts. anyway here's the first cabs , there will be plenty more.As you will see there's a lot of other type of material than koroit. but maybe not as good It got too hot for me up there and I could only dig for about 3 hours early in the mornings. This can exploded in my car on the trip home it was that hot.

Wow! Hope it didn't make too much of a mess, and that now you don't attract ants to your vehicle. They really do have some nice patterning. Jo

WOW what a trip that must have been so exciting! I agree there might not always be fire but still pretty patterns and it is just fun to see what reveals itself as you grind! Man that is some hot temps to explode a soda!!! Soda is bad for you anyways!!!!!!! LOL
