We got some new material, all Canadian rocks as far as I know. I am pretty sure most is granite, but a few left me scratching my head. It has got me researching granites and I found nothing overly helpful. Sorting through the 1000's of counter top suppliers was frustrating, lol, I attempted to use keywords that would target research etc... but was not getting very far. Anyone have any good resources or books they would suggest on granites or related? Here are some of the pieces, I tried to do a quick cab of each material. The purple material and the green banded material interests me most. Neither is magnetic. Thanks for any info, Carleton

altho it may be granite mostly It some good looking solid rock
Years ago I was a counter top manufacturer and he showed me a manual a trade book that was packed with information on identifying marbles and granites it was comprehensive and a title like The Institute for Marble Manufactures or Association of ect... ect...
I done a search and haven't be able to find it but it would be neat if I can

"natural stone gallery" sound close?
Oversized hard cover book (with attractive MIA book jacket) features 480 marbles, granites, travertines, onyx, & quartzite stones, plus technical data (metric measurements) on each stone. The stone pictures are beautifully showcased. This book is perfect for your showroom and/or office coffee table From MIA/Studio Marma, 2006, 256 pp / hard-cover $125
Not sure if the tech data means measurments only, the bracketed bit after tech data makes me wonder.
The Marble Institute of America brought up lots of stuff for me to look at, thank you Ed.

WOW I think I need to thank you ,Carelton I'm pretty sure that was the book I was referencing Huge and "Marble institute of America" sounds right Thanks Ed its funny, I spent quite a few hours looking and all it took was your keyword "Marble Institute of America" and I am getting overwhelmed with info, good info too. the black and white looks to be amphibolite, the red is granite . the purple and green banded are both banded slate . Thank you, with the new research info I was starting to wonder about slate, but limestone started to have me second guessing but was not 100%. I came across a few reads on amphibolite too, I will be sure to go back and read them now. I appreciate the help. Carleton
