The hill tops have larger cobbles.I do not know western terrain but apparently those cobbles were left by turns in the old river path. And the hill tops were there because the cobbles prevented erosion. The bigger 4-8 inch cobbles give a generous dose of tumbling material. And it seems that only the toughest material has survived in the rigors of cobble formation.I love this hobby. Beautiful material! I love that Rio grande gravel. Couple I ride with manage a 40,000 acre ranch down there and I've got an invite for this winter. They tell me there are huge gravel beds all over the ranch. Can't wait till deer season is over so I can go down and check it out....Mel
