Hello i can see why people can have an addictions to rocks and stones, ive always liked them and of late gone out hunting in a few local spots around where i live, there is so much to learn,i did my first large stone carving with some local Oamaru lime stone ,it was pretty cool to do and very different than doing sculpture work with clay and other mediums ,i am an open mind hobbyist and if it gets my attention then i will seek it out and add it to my art addiction,i have done bone carving in the past and thought yep i want to make stuff from what i have collects with rocks and stones,i got a compound saw and going to convert it to a compound drop wet saw and hope to make my own tumbler, looking forward to doing some reading on here and learn about rocks and stones

So, you are in Southland, maybe near Oamaru? I had a Scottish friend who was a stone mason doing mostly restoration work when I lived in Christchurch. He loved working with Oamaru stone..and did extensive to the Cathedral.......all for naught now. I sure hope it will be rebuilt. Chi Chi can not be the same without it. The quake turned my old shop into a big pile of bricks. Woody ...late of En Zed
