Finally got time to vist our cabin and brought back some puddingstones to cut. Most of these were found on the shore or in the water while snorkling in lake huron. This one is in my friends yard and its 5ft long 3 ft tall and 4ft wide. He hauls rock for a living and has about 20 this size placed around the yard for landscaping. Usually when they are this big they dont have some much jasper in them. This is a rock is on the side of the road right before my property and I passed it everytime for 20 years and never thought about it till my aunt painted it last year .... its perfect size too so looks really cool now [/img] thanks for looking Chuck

There's a pudding stone in a yard near my house that's way bigger than that one. But, as you said, I don't think there's nearly as much jasper in it.
Do you have trouble identifying pudding stones in the lake? Around Alpena most of the rocks are completely covered in a brownish algae. I went to Petoskey in the summer and couldn't find any Petoskey stones for the same reason. Lake Superior doesn't seem to have an algae problem though.

Rob-
when search the shoreline the rocks in the shallow water are covered in algea but it seems like if we kayak out to rock shoals they are much cleaner. I think its becuase of the constant pounding waves on the shoals. I do take a scrub brush but I think next year I will even take a scrub brush mounted to a 4ft pole.
When I asked the value of that puddingstone boulder he said he wouldnt sell it for less then $1500. He said they have sold ones half the size and not as nice for $1000
