Does anybody know where I can get a list of rocks and minerals for west central Illinois? I heard there is agate, I've found plenty of chert, quartz, slate, coal, pic stone, and jasper. Found fossils, coral, and crinoids.

I'm in Alton. Have you checked out the gravel bar at Chain of Rocks? It's one of my favorite places to hunt and there is lots of agate!

I live about 5 minutes from the chain of rocks gravel bar in Troy, IL. Havent ever been out there. Worked some pipeline job out there before though that was very close.

K3 river does have some rocks although I don't know how good. Went out for the first time this summer during the drought and hauled a bunch back. Limestone and granite are pretty deceptive when they are coverd in red silt and iron. I did find one something but don't know what it is. We had fun though, that was what the day was about !
