The man who owns this boulder claims he broke 3 band saw blade, at 12,000 dollars apiece, trying to cut a slab all the way through this behemoth. It couldn’t be done. I just needed a little piece to make a rock’n heart. So this is a chip off the old block.

Well, maybe it was worth the try. Last year when I visited the big rock fair in Munchen, the most expensive item I spotted was a huge slab of tiger eye. The price was 125,000 euros.
Beautiful heart, I like how you combined the patterns of the two halves.

Thanks Ad !
I was off a little on lining up the red ban when I epoxied the 2 halves. Maybe we had tremor and that the seismic shift Ha Ha
My seam is not real great I might try grinding it down a little more although it not so obvious in person but the camera doesn't lie.
That boulder is at counter top marble shop in Phoenix The owner told me the story. It was quarried in Italy and tried cutting. After breaking 3 band saws blades, he said enough! Had shipped it here and put on display as his $75,000 rock. Such is the story.
I'm not sure what is possibly at the bottom of that rock that diamond saw couldn't penetrate? Diamond crystal? hhhhmmmm...

Ed, what you do is get you a friend, and an old tree push/pull saw blade with handles. Put some diamond grit, and sand, in the groove, and get to push/pulling with the side opposite the teeth. After a year or so you'll have a nice slice without spending much money at all, lol. Nice heart, as per usual! I'd love to see one with the bands mis matched too, like with a 4 slicer. 4 mismatched slices would make some nice eye whirlies, lol. T

Coo heart Ed , from a heart breakin, bladebreakin rock, keep em coming. Interesting how all the cuts only made the same depth, must be some super hard band there

Beautiful job on the heart, Ed, and the material looks very cool! I'd leave cutting it to the experts...mostly. Better their saws than yours! :-)
