No more 8 and 16 grit for me.It has been ground with the surface of the rock. This is heat treated Savannah River agate and it is full of small botroidal lined cavities.About 30 percent have grit wedged in them.

Bummer, hope you can salvage those. I have a set of real sharp picks I use when 60/90 gets stuck in rocks but those look like the grit is about the same size as the holes they are in.

You must go there Mario. It is very quiet,in big farm country.Wnen you get to the boat ramp artifacts are in the river gravel for about 200 yards on the upstream side. But the river has to be low.I may have cleaned them all out over the years.Mostly flint tools more so than points.
That is a bummer.I will see what happens if i leave them in there. What may happen?

I have the same situation at times, a sharpened motorcycle spoke works well as a pick. That is some really nice rock. Larry

16 grit? That's bigger than some of the rock I tumble!

If you leave it in there you run the risk it will pop out during a later tumble or even during polish and ruin the entire batch, I would go after them with a tiny diamond burr or drill and see about removing them, then run them through the 36 and hope for the best!!
Tomorrow I check on my Lakers that have been in course & medium for a week to see how they are doing.

try putting them in an ultrasonic cleaner with hot water and dawn dish washing liquid. If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, Harbor Freight does for about $30.
