Well I'm sending my Genie in to get the arbor straightened. In the end that's good, but in the short term there will be no cabbing. Sad. The upshot is when i took apart the Genie I cleaned it good and kept right on cleaning and got the whole shop in order. The near bench is where the genie was sitting. The far bench is the new woodworking-cum-metalsmithing bench i set up recently. The near bench will resume duty as the genie work area, but hopefully with the pronounced vibration gone i can actually keep other stuff on the bench (instead of it falling on the floor) A panorama (oooh)

It's looking great but am sad about your Genie! Was it bent when you got it and how long will it be gone?

I hear yer pain John. The 4 wheel cabber I got is turnin into a monster. The wheels were not standard to everthing else, I came up with a plan to fix that, but the left hand threads have got me stopped cold. The machine shop cant find a left hand thread bolt to complete the redo. I may be back to SIC belts again. Later Clyde

Sorry to hear about your cabber woes Clyde, hopefully you can get that reverse-threaded bolt, it seems like something you could track down, have you tried Grainger? I built this very basic website for a company a few years ago, you have to call (they don't have online ordering) but they specialize in bolts etc.: acmesalesusa.com/Cathy, when I bought the Genie it was from a return from a previous customer, and I bought it sight unseen. It has had a really bad vibration since I got it set up, and I've tried to tweak the wheels to get it to not shake but it is really bad. I was able to work with it but it shook everything off the table. I didn't know what "normal vibration" was because I'd never seen one in person running to have a comparison until last weekend when I went to Blue Stone Rock Shop in Loveland and asked the owner if I could see his Genie run, and it was super smooth and quiet - very different than what I had experienced. I showed the seller the wobble in a video and he has helped arrange to get it fixed (something Diamond Pacific can do, straighten arbors) - I got it to UPS today, should be back to Diamond Pacific Tuesday, and I don't know how long they will need to get it fixed and sent back my way.

thanks Roy,
it was practically brand new when I got it, are you saying the capacitor that comes with it is not a good one and should be replaced in general? I hadn't heard this before.

Hey, John! Very sorry to read about your Genie, and hope it gets well soon. Read about it on OA. Do you use the saw attachment on your Genie? I wondered if the vibration might be from bad bearings? Had to replace the bearings (and arbor) in the CabMate about a year ago since the machine would vibrate when operating it. I think I was a bit rough on the machine using the saw to trim slabs on the CabMate. With the Genie, since it has 2 arbors that are attached to the motor, I think that's right (?), will the motor and both arbors have to be replaced?

Hi Jan, I don't use the saw attachment, although I have considered purchasing that. This was definitely a bent shaft on the motor, and from what I could tell the bearings were fine (they have no play, operate smoothly and quietly) In this case, the folks at Diamond Pacific felt that it was something they could fix, I guess they occasionally get motors with bent shafts from their supplier and have to straighten them. I am going to be optimistic and hope they can just straighten the shaft and have everything work!

If you google Left hand or reverse thread, there are several companies that have them.
