I've been cabbing a lot of opals lately, I seem to be really hooked on them. I bought the Welo's at a local show. It was their lowest grade and cost me about $1 per gram. I've since discovered that its much cheaper on ebay so I've bought more there. Bubble gum opal from Stonesthatrock Lame australian Australian Australian Another Australian Nice greens in this Australian Lightening ridge from Amber's stash. Spencer opal Probably the best Australian Welo Welo 2 Welo 3 Welo 4 They look a bit rough around the edges but they are all pretty small.

Good job on those opals! I like 'em Might photo better on a black background. Can still see them but, the black would make 'em pop out at ya

I tried a black background but the colors were all washed out.

Nice light play in those opals Tony! I can`t afford much for precious opals do look out for deals on them. Did you leave much of the matrix on the Welos on the backside or just in spots?I removed too much on one and had to really work to get the fire to come out of it. I need to find some of that Spencer opal!

These pics really do not do them justice, I love the lightening ridge, the welo's do have the best fire.

The bulk of these are backed by obsidian. I try to remove as much matrix as I can but sometimes it ends up going through the stone so there's no getting rid of it.

Tony I did a Welo for my daughter and thought I had totally lost the fire when I removed all of the matrix. It lost a lot of the glitter look to it and that`s when I had to work down into the stone to bring it out again. You do some fine work!

J, from what I read the Welo looses its color when its wet and it comes back as it dries. Interesting property.

Amber's LR is beautiful, Tony!! I like the Spencer, too, and wondered if you placed a quartz cap on it? Amazed that you were able to cab the Spencer. Isn't it really thin material?

Thanks everyone. The spencer was tough as you said its a very thin layer of color and it wasn't a flat layer. I kinda carved that one on the edge of the wheel. No way to put a quartz cap on that one. I have more but that might be the best piece, way more color than in this photo.
