;D I joined this group years ago, tried to get active last Sept., annoyed a lot of people but was greatly amused, changed my ID because I clicked on something wrong, then got busy with other things. We got our first serious snowfall here in northern MN so the outdoor rock activities are on the back burner for a while (unheated buildings). For me, winter activities are reading and blogging about rocks, minerals, earth science, etc...painting on rocks, updating my website, maybe will try wire wrap. Suggestions welcome from anyone who lives in a cold climate

Hi ojhoff. Where about in northern MN are you ? I have rockin friends in Ely who would love to meet you. They're both retired, and during warm weather love to get out fishing and rockhounding.
How far inland are you from S.D. ? I'm in Aberdeen, S.D. No other rockhounds around these parts. For that matter, no rocks worth collecting in these parts.

When I lived in ND(next to the Canada border) I did alot of hunting and shooting during the winter months.... Did alot of walking in the woods with my camera for photo's of wildlife too....... It didn't matter if it got -30 below,I never liked being inside doing nothing!

I've lived here (Bemidji) all my life and I don't like cold weather but there are worse places. I'm not a hunter. I consider what I do indoors worthwhile but it tends to be not rock-oriented except for the grinder down in the basement. My county is the one in MN that isn't even mentioned in geology books. However, last summer rocks became quite controversial www.angelfire.com/oh5/ojhoff/Olivia/

I picked two Lakers out of landscape rock - Winona River Rock - in Rochester today. At the in-laws for Thanksgiving -- rock I had thoroughly picked over already -- pays to keep looking. It was 60 yesterday, but only 20 when I went out this morn. Picked just 20 minutes because it was so windy, and I didn't bring a warm hat. I try to stockpile stuff to tumble in the winter, but I'll run out before spring.
