I'm headed down to Farmington Monday for the week to work on a small project. I'm thinking I'm going to have some spare time in the afternoon...so are there any good rockhounding locations nearby? I will also be there again to do another job in the near future. Maybe it would be a great time to scout out the area and when I go back down...spend a real day or two looking for rocks. What is to be found in the area as well? I appreciate any help! steve

I've seen pet wood and dino bone from around there but mostly off the Rez. The closest I've collected is at Silverton, CO. That's a good day trip from Farmington but at 8300 feet or so probably too late.

If it were me, I'd forget the rocks and go chase trophy trout in the san juan.

I will check my gem trail book but would have to agree with Don about the fishing in the San Juan. I know an area full of agate by Gallina but its probably over an hour away from Farmington.

Thanks you guys! I checked out that link Jake and it looks like three locations fairly close to Farmington. I might have to seriously check out the river down there. The other two guys I'm going with like to Fly Fish as well as me...so that might be the ticket. We will be going back to finish up a Sportsmens Warehouse in the near future...so the second trip might be when we can actually go fishing or rockhouding. This trip we will be working on a small strip mall. Thanks Again you Guys! steve

I can give you the lady's name that is the show chairman there. She can maybe put you together with someone in the club or give you more information.
