We had a batch finish up in the lot-o today. Not the best stuff around but thought I would post them anyway. These were the first rocks we roughed in a new 12lb lortone and I dont think we have the formula quite figured out yet. whole batch Lake Superior agate Montana agate Turitella Puddingstone Thanks for looking! Gorgeous batch! Loved them all but my favorites are the Montana agates!

Thanks for the kind words. I just need to get used to the weekly clean out on the 12 pound barrel. I find myself rushing them along just be because of the quantity. It's very time consuming to try to inspect every stone in that barrel each week.

Got some nice looking stones there.I run a two week run per charge on mine too, dump it out and pick out a loto load out of the batch. The ones that flunk their physical are put aside to run later,or maybe never! snuffy

It makes good sense to permantly reject some. Some are either not pretty or too fractured.Best reject em as soon as possible....I run coarse fast and hard on agates to weed out the weak.It may not be the best practice.Rose quartz is the test rock of choice. A bad idea if tumbling obsidian,Labrodolite, flourite and other delicate stuff

All my tumbled rejects no matter what stage go into a bucket. We plan on randomly dropping them along some walking/hiking trails in the spring and figure someone will think they are pretty cool when they stumble across them. Any that have been through polish but still dont make the grade will go in the schools sandbox (that was an idea I got here on the board and thought it was great) Chuck

Friends,
One comment on the sandbox idea. Could they pose a choaking hazard for small children?
Peace,

I see your point if it were a real public park sandbox but ours is just an area in the playground field were the boys dig and play so there's already plenty of rocks and stuff there. Should not be any toddlers eating rocks around. Still might stick to dropping them along the hiking trails for the most part.
