KCC for the month of November 2012! Rules: Nothing has changed, Entries are not required to be started in the time frame of the contest, only finished by the deadline. All entries however will still require a photo of the slab, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer. Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. Again, please remember to include a pic or two of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab. We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to the RTH version of the Killer Cab Contest. I will do my best to monitor the other forums for duplicate entries, and any duplicates will be disqualified. You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral. Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share. Cabs posted here are only for the contest. We will be sponsoring this months contest again, with... you guessed it, some good quality Labradorite. If anyone would like to sponsor any months contest, please feel free, we are not trying monopolize that, lol, its just fun to to get a prize, so when there is no sponsor we will keep doing our best to get the winner some material Good Luck everyone! I think it is a Jasper of some description but not sure from where - In saying that, the patterns in it remind me of pet wood, but I dont think it is that. Has quite a few dendrites running through the yellowish banding which makes it pretty interesting stuff. You can check out my blog entry on this one here: jakagems.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/success-second-times-charm.html

Here is my entry, Despite not getting a chance to get a positive ID (again, sorry) I figured I would enter it anyways and maybe get some help. It was pretty hard, agate hard. I was drawn to this slab seeing a decent flame pattern in it. Slab Pre form Cab Profile Back lit Thanks, Carleton

I really like the flame pattern in that piece...exceptional!! I have some similar material at home but your has a much better pattern than mine does!
Jaka, I cannot begin to comprehend the amount of work you put into those handles... that is so far beyond what I can do now.. very impressive!!

Anyone that can cut cabs would be able to do this. The biggest hurdle was the size of the cabs on my 6 inch wheels, but I managed to overcome this. Was no more difficult than a large fancy cab! I reckon anyone should give it a go!

Was no more difficult than a large fancy cab! I reckon anyone should give it a go! Ahh but therein lies the problem I do not cab yet, only now starting to learn flat top cabs. I only have 1 wheel, a 80 gr 4 inch wheel and nothing to hook it up to, probably will try to make something to do cabs in the new year as money is just too tight right now for me to start buying a lot of materials to build a cabbing setup. I figure I'll stockpile stiff until I have enough to build one and then start the rest of the learning process. I will say this... with so few cabs entered I may have to submit 1 of my mistakes to see if I can place in the competition as it seems I might actually have a shot at it.

Well there are plenty of people on this forum that will be able to give you guidance once you have your machinary up and running! But be warned, cabbing is highly addictive.......

Before the month slips away, here's my entry - Picked up this small slab of Sonoran Dendritic rhyolite at a show last spring. This was pretty much the entire piece, although I did shape it a little bit. The slate blue color is much prettier in person. I love the color and pattern of this stuff, but as a rhyolite, it won't take a real shiny polish - more of a satin finish - Back Voila! Hope you like it! Jean
