That's some nice looking rhyolite... I'll take a nice satin finish any day on a piece like that!!

I just have a question here. What if instead of making your cab from a slab with a template cut, you start out with a small rough rock and no particular shape in mind until the rock lets you know what it wants to look like? A fire agate or opal for example.

Nice work Jean! I like how worked it so the circular patterned was presented on that tip John, sweet cab! Does it have the typical tiger eye chatoyancy? Or does each section in the pattern have its own viewing angle? or does the effect shimmer across the whole piece? Sorry so many questions, but I have never worked Marra Mamba, just the common tiger eye. You have me wanting to now though. Mario, I never knew you were not totally set up for cabbing. If you need a full set of diamond flat lap plates, shoot me a pm and we can set you up at close to factory cost to get you cabbing :cheesy: Jspencer, I say go for it. I have never seen the full rules enforced or any entries disqualified in the past, so I am trying to keep the contest in the same way Don ran it. I am sure no one will have any problems with that, I know I don't. I would suggest taking a pic of the rough before working it and then maybe a few work in progress pictures so we can experience the way you transformed the piece and how it inspired you to get the end cab. Just a thought. Nice work everyone, Carleton

Mario, I never knew you were not totally set up for cabbing. If you need a full set of diamond flat lap plates, shoot me a pm and we can set you up at close to factory cost to get you cabbing. Carleton Then I would have to buy a flat lap machine.... Actually I am looking into an old HP cabbing machine if I can work out a trade for it, other wise I will probably try the inland flat lap. But thanx for thinking of me !!
