Ok, so I got a bit of Rainbow Moonstone from ebay. Some of the pieces have really nice obvious blue flash (not very many). My question is about the others -- they just look like white feldspar. They're tumbling or barely cabbing size.
Question is: If I can't see flash from the surface, is is pretty likely that there's no flash and I can just make them yard rock, or does the flash emerge from the depths of the rock upon tumbling or cutting? I've never used this type of rock before.
Thanks!

Susan: Are all the pieces rough? If so, throw them in the tumbler...you will see the flash better if the surfaces are smoother, and wet. You do not need to go to polish, just smooth, and wet. To cab for best colour and flash, you need to orient the the plane of flash parallel to the surface of the cab. That said, if they are already tumbled, but not polished, wet them and look for flash. When you find the flash, mark the plane so you can cut for best effect. Hopefully you did not buy a bag of junk. Woody

Thanks Woody. Yeah, they're all rough. Ok, going to throw the unflashy looking ones in the tumbler for a little while and see if any flash emerges. I suspect it is a bag of mostly junk though.
