Good looking stuff James. You put a lot of work into taking and uploading over 70 pics of that batch. What are your plans for all the shiny stones you are going to be getting from your giant tumblers?

I see what looks like marine fossils in quite a few of those. The patterns and colors are really cool.

The photography is a big interest.Learning to tumble is too.I sell a few here and there at shops in Atlanta.Barely enough to pay for grit though.Building machines is also great. But the rocks that occur in nature fuels me.Like those marine fossils that i can't see without polish or a digital camera,or the ancient man that heat treated the material to increase the contrast. And other rock hounds that are amazed at them too. It's a great hobby. Some day they may end up being a source of income too.Meantime i want to keep aggravating Carlos.

I have a real simple recipe Snuffy. It has worked on 4 loads with no fractures. It works on stuff one inch and thinner. It takes 24 hours start to finish using a counter top convection oven that goes to 550 F.Thicker stuff takes longer. I use sand and two 11 x 11 x 3 inch cake pans on top of each other-bot 22-24 pounds of chips.I suggest knocking a chip off and heating from each chunk to see if it will change color at all. Most does not change enough to worth the time.I can't wait to uncover them.I start in morning, turn off at midnight(leave oven closed). It may be cool enough to stick your fingers in the sand by 8-10:00AM.8-10 hours to prevent fracturing.200 for 2 hours 300 for 2 400 for 2 500 for 2 550-600 for 4-6 then cool down as above.
