Thanks Snuffy. I will try to scrape up the entry fee after I get Christmas out of the way. Do they tell you where you place even if its 12th, 20th and so on or just the top three?

This contest sounded interesting so I went to their website to get more information. Here is a summary: www.featherriverrocks.org/The entry fee is $40 includes shipping and handling (US). (deadline 6/1/13.) They will send you 3LBS of Tuledad Canyon Agate. We most return ½ lb. of the best rocks we tumble and pay for the shipping. (not later than 8/15/13.) The public at their rock annual show votes to determine the top three winners. The first place will receive $250.00, the 2nd $100.00 and the 3rd $50.00. Additional observations: We will get 3lbs of rocks, they don’t mention rock size or approximate amount of pieces. So I guess there’s the possibility that we get large sizes to be cut. They don’t mention any specific rules on how we must accomplish the tumbling. I guess we are able to use the help of any devices to improve the shape of the rocks they send to be tumbled. I remember reading (previous year RTH post) that they will not return the rocks we send back to us. Last year there were only 3 winners and 3 honorable mentions (at site). Only the names of these 6 individuals were mentioned, nothing else. I found out that this year they will also mention the winner’s club affiliation. As far as I know they will not post any pictures of the participant’s rocks or the winning rocks. I don’t know if they will ask for the techniques and materials we used to accomplish our tumbling work, but they did not post any of that information last year. I think that they could get much more participation by creating a comprehensive contest web page at their site, and creating enthusiasm from participants with the use of photographs and information on their techniques. At the end they could even do an auction for the tumbled rocks they got and generate additional revenues for their club.
