Hello all. I am a long-time rockhound from the California (go Serpentine) Bay Area. I have recently joined the RFTF website and yours was recommended as well. I will be joining the CCMGS in January with my wife as well. We have recently begun our journey into the Lap side of this great hobby and I am now in my shop more than ever. I am presently attending CSU and studying geology though I finish my degree this upcoming year and I am still deciding what to do after that. Glad to know you all and I look forward to years of shared passion for those awesome little bits of earth we all love.

Welcome from Socal! Do you like rockhounding too? Often (well, sometimes) we go rockhounding just north of Fresno and the environs.

Thanks for the replies. Yes Bluesky, I am a rockhound all the way through. I have been picking up interesting rocks since childhood and have actively sought out fossil sites for many years. I am just now getting into the whole Lapidary side (getting some new tools from Santa) so I am pretty excitedabout all of that. Fresno/Madeira are great areas yuppers. Thanks for the reply!
Paul; Thanks a bunch! I cannot handle an all day every day office job any more so after more than a decade in real estate I returned to school. (we live in Concord) Glad to know you Paul.

Rocks sure are the best! Well, they may take up a little room, but you don't have to feed them, clean them, pick up after them, they don't shed (mostly), they don't need to be licensed, no vet bills, their tolerances for heat and cold are very high... Remind me why I have a couple dogs??
Welcome from Southern California!

Kudos to you all the more for having the guts to trade careers like that. Ten years in one industry and then a big change. OUTSTANDING. ... I cannot handle an all day every day office job any more so after more than a decade in real estate I returned to school...

Thanks again all. I have been crazy busy with the holidays (and sneaking out to some hounding sites before they are completely closed down for the winter). I look forward to all of your great insights and appreciate the encouragement. Cheers!

Welcome Geo! I grew up in Concord (go CVHS) and now live in Davis. One of these days I WILL get to the Area 54 (?) rockhounding trip, I drool over the pics they put up everytime.

Thanks everyone. It is difficult to stay active on these boards with so much going on (and I now monitor RFTF, the new board for RFTF and here) but I am doing my best. I may not post as often as I should but am here, actively reading articles and inundated with info. You know, typical rock PUP stuff lol. Kris I will see you on Saturday at Panoche and Dee you really oughta check it out yourself. It is better even that what Kris or the pics can do justice. Talk to you all soon.

Welcome to the forum from a former Bay Area (San Jose) rockhound fanatic. We found the key and escaped from the constant traffic jam to settle in the Gold Country. Hope to see some of your woek soon! Bob
