Howdy folks, The light is kind of weird behind my shop but here are a few pics, taken wet, from the poppy jasper pile. Some of you older members may have seen a few of these as I mined them and some are probably types I haven't taken photos of before. Thanks for lookin....Mel Sort of Sierra Primrose type but from a single small pit I dug after finding a little vein on the surface. Another type dug from an old prospect pit that was near the original Flora claim poppy jasper. Under the surface, this whole hill was full of jasper veins but really hard to dig. Another type from another pit. Small orb jasper from where the strawberry jasper vein originated. Unfortunately this vein was shot through with poison oak roots which I found out the hard way. What we go through for our pretty rocks. Original Flora Claim poppy jasper. Rest of these all came from the tailings of pit my buddy named the glory hole. This is the pit the outrageous pink on red poppy came from. Only found a bit of that but there were a dozen other poppy types in the tailings. Unfortunately, most these are more fractured than the fancy stuff. Another hunk from the area where the strawberry vein was. It had narrowed down to thinner sections of poppies by this time.

Aside from liking them all, the 2nd and 6th are REALLY nice!
What plans do you have with them?

Love this stuff.
Thanks for putting out all the detailed images.
It's like a museum without having to travel.

Amazing poppies, Mel! Just learning poppy, are these native Texans, or some California's, or somewhere else entirely?

Kris: Those are all California material from the southern Mother Lode in Mariposa County hence the general name Hornitos Poppy Jasper. The little town of Hornitos is the closest town. The wife and I used to own a ranch right in the center of the poppy jasper zone and actually had big nodules of one type of poppy right in situ on the hillside across from the house. The jasper zone there extends for about 5-10 miles along the foothills in a band paralleling the Sierras but about one range down. There is also very fine brecciated jasper in the area that used to go under the name Sierra Jasper, or Hornitos Jasper....Mel

I love the variety of patterns and shades, I could easily imagine them tumbled! Never been to Mariposa County, perhaps one day!
