Hi, geo-enthusiasts! Just wanted to invite everyone out the the 3rd Annual Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics! "Last Blast" field trip on Sunday, December 30th. We'll be starting out in the Panoche Hills, at Area 54. Just a short drive off of I-5, this vast stream bed collecting site is over 1.25 miles long, and 1/2 mile wide. Agate, jasper, jadeite, nephrite, Blue G and many, many other materials are abundant here. Vehicle access is easy for anything taller than a Lamborghini, and there are plenty of kid and handicapped friendly sites throughout Area 54. After lunch at the Chevron Travel Center at the Nee's Ave/Firebaugh exit on I-5, we'll head east across the Valley to the Madera County foothills for roadside chiastolite collecting. This is another easy access site, literally "step out of your car" collecting. Both surface collecting and road cut "in situ" digging are easily achieved. I hope that you'll be able to join us for this fun, "all weather" firld trip. For full details, the Google Map, and RSVP's, goto: rockhound-field-trips.ning.com/events/rftf-last-blast-field-trip-sunday-december-30-2012Hope to see you there! Kris
