I need to try my luck at opal too... I have some BO I got cheap... any suggestions for cabbing BO?
I also have something called Idaho Opal, not sure what it is... I thought it was Opaline wood at first, not sure anymore.

After mixing the glue, put it in a vacuum chamber (desiccator) for a minute or so to get all the bubbles out. Then after you glue the bits down, vacuum it again. this is the process I use when using conformal coat (two part silocone) on my home made geiger counter boards.

Ed I'm pretty low tech so I just glue the opals to the backing with thick superglue then flood the top with thin. I have done another mosaic, ground the opal to fit together in an geometric pattern. Learned a couple of lessons on that one too. I'll post that once I get a pic of it.

OPAL INSPIRATION Skinny! I've got some Opal that I really need to concentrate on in 2013. Maybe a New Years resolution for me....behind a few more important ones. Thanks for sharing Tony. I like what you did with the mosaic creation...very neat. steve

Man, I don't know when I've seen such a grouping of more difficult to work opal, lol. Amazing, and you top it off with a great man made opal conglomerate cab. Amazing. If that was a batch I'd just finished I'd be bouncing off the walls, lol. Tony you are The Man!!
Dad..the Idaho opal is probably Spencer opal from Spencer, Idaho. Thin, thin layers of color that require you to be masterful to get centered on a dome. I love it but it is tough to work. T

nice pieces Tony with plenty of fire, thats a great variety you have there, and I think sometimes its harder to get nice pics of the fire than cutting them lol.
