I was wondering about the different varieties of Turquoise. I have an Old Pawn bracelet tat looks to have blue/green Kingman Turquoise. I was wondering about the value of the different types of Turquoise. I know that there is Sleeping Beauty, Bisbee, Carico Lake, Kingman, Pilot Mountain and Royston just to name a few. Is there an order in which variety is most valuable assuming quality is of the same level in all?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Stu

Hi, Stu, and Happy New Year to you and your family! I think the turquoise group of minerals includes variscite, faustite, and chalcosiderite. There's also turquoise from Iran (Persia/Persian turquoise) and Turkey, along with a couple other sources. I think the Persian turquoise probaby sets the standard for quality, but I hope someone else more qualified will add their expertise. Here's a piece of Canadian Turquoise that Todd kindly sent to me that he self-collected. Here's a faustite cab that I won from rocks2dust's/Kevin's auctions.

Hey, I can't tell you the value of turq...it's not my thing, but I bought a book called Turquoise Unearthed by Joe Dan Lowry and Joe P. Lowry (yeah... two authors with almost the exact name.) These guys run the Turquoise Museum in Albuquerque, NM. The book doesn't do pricing, but it does go into many different mining locations and shows images from most of them. It also discusses rarity to a small degree. www.amazon.com/Turquoise-Unearthed-An-Illustrated-Guide/dp/1887896333Hope this helps a tad, Lowell

Hi Stu, here is a link to the different mines for turq. gives info & pics and also you can browse their inventory to get an idea of value. I don't know them at all, just stumbled on to it. #8 is the name of a specific mine. Maybe if you contact them, they can help more. worth a shot. www.silversunalbuquerque.com/m-number_8.htmBoy it's been a while. Happy New Year. Lori
