So my wife bought me some wire wrapping supplies, pliers, 22g & 26 g spools of wire, all from Wally World, to practice wrapping and see if I like it enough to continue. So with some cabs I traded for, 3 hours of time, a lack of patience, and while drawing on my vast knowledge of English & Italian for the proper swear words!!, I was able to do these 3 really lousy wraps. The wire isn't smooth because I was trying to make it work without breaking it, which I did numerous times... But i think they are enough to know that with practice I can definitely do better, so here they are, if you don't like them, don't worry, I'm not crazy about them either, they just happen to be my first attempts at different wraps. a 1 wire wrap; 2 wire twisted; 3 wire mess w/spiral; thanx for looking

You tried three different styles for your first attempt! Congratulations, you're on your way! I've watched sooooooooo many tutorials last night plus the one by Its&Bits on here, I couldn't figure out which way to go so while they were all rattling around in my head I just went with whatever came up first.... I plan on trying to do it like its&Bits style next, see which one I prefer. Yeah, yours actually look better than my first (and last) attempt. My actual first 4 attempts are in the scrap bucket next to my chair.. their the ones that taught me that this "Wally World El' Cheapo" wire breaks really easily and they are a mangled mess of twists and broken pieces. I'm going to run down to the Homies or Lowes store and buy some better quality (& Thicker) Copper wire to practice on while this stuff for the side wraps that hold the wire strands together.

For your first 3, you did great! My first wouldn't go on any known chain because I made the bail too small, lol. Nice spiral on that last one!

I agree, for your first those aren't bad at all. It takes practice. I applaud you for putting up pictures. Keep up the wrapping. I agree with the Wally World wire being crap. I also have gotten some from bead stores that was crap too. I don't know about the Home Depot or Lowe's wire but I've bought copper from Brandywine Jewelry Supply online that wasn't too expensive and works well for practice. Hope to see more of your work soon.

Great first effort! Nice variety, too. Starting with crap wire is almost a good thing because once you get better wire, it will be that much easier. Keep posting, I'd love to follow your progression.

The wire they sell in the electrical dept/aisle at lowes/homies is bulk by the foot and usually contains as much as 20-30 strands of coated/uncoated, not twisted, wire. Once opened up a 2 foot section could yield as much as 200 feet of wire in different gauges from 24 down to 10, depending on the wire you get, strip off the insulation and off you go! Great first effort! Nice variety, too. Starting with crap wire is almost a good thing because once you get better wire, it will be that much easier. Keep posting, I'd love to follow your progression. I'll do my best to keep you entertained !! LOL right now my daughter is parading around with the tree agate wrap on, she has already staked her claim on it and I may never see it again!!

My first ones were almost as bad as yours and I was using electrical wire. If you hold one end of the wire with a pair of pliers, put an old rag over your thumb and first finger, hold tight on the wire with the rag so you are making a curve in the wire then pull the wire through the rag. Do this several times and it will take out the bends and polish the wire. The rag is for keeping the heat from burning your fingers. (hint, use a thick rag, ouch).
Everyone is all thumbs when they try the wire but just about all of us get better with practice practice practice. I am all the way up to half as good as most people but have high hopes. Jim

Scrolling back up I saw your spiral and that thing is really good. Spirals are a pain in the but and it is really easy to get plier marks all over the end of the wire. There is some good in everything. JIm

There is some good in everything. JIm I used round tip pliers to start it then bent it between my thumb and forefinger, no pliers needed after the start.

These are a great start! It really feels kind of unnatural the first few time you wrap... ok...the first couple of months, but you develop a rhythm to it and a style and you're off! Keep at it an post what you do!!!
