Howdy folks, Woke up to a snowy ranch this morning which is very unusual for around these parts. Know this seems tame to you who are northerners but I hate the cold so am glad this only happens often enough to be a pictorial curiosity. Poor blackbuck were miserable as they are not cold weather beasties. Just a couple of pics....Mel

Very cool pictures Mel. Sorry to hear about the beasties but it won't stick around long and they'll be happy beasties once again.

Thats pretty cool that the deer come right up to your house. Where I live they do the same thing. Got some acorn trees that they hang around late at night. I live around fields with tree lines and I see deer, turkey, coyotes and big ol hawks almost everyday. I really like watching the wildlife even the birds. Cardinals are all over here. Ive also noticed that blue jays are the only bird that eat acorns. Their beak looks a little bigger than the cardinals and robins beak and they hold the acorn, wedged in a branch, and break them up with their beaks. We got them big ol bucks, 200+ pounders(and does) around here. Plenty of different variety of food to help them get big.

Bhiatt, The are a couple of whitetail in the pic but most what you see in the pic are female blackbuck, an antelope out of India and Nepal. We really enjoy the birds too and had our Xmas bird count day yesterday. Not a lot of species here, we only got 40+ but our lakes helped as we had quite a few ducks. I like the cardinals too and they're very common here also. Our local deer are itty bitty compared to the muleys we had on our California ranch. The local bucks get huge horns but probably seldom go over the 150 pound mark. We do have some Axis though and those muthas are humongous, almost small elk sized....Mel

An antelope? Now thats really cool. Those Axis are monsters. That must be great seeing 40 different species of birds. Only about a handfull of different ones around here. My uncle lives pretty close to me and hes got a bunch of cardinals around his house. I went over there for Christmas to visit him and there were at least fifty of them in his back yard. Hes got a picture of a hawk with a yellowish looking head and he said it only comes around in the winter. He got a photo of it sitting on his ATV trailer this year. It comes around to feast on the birds. Ill get the photo and put it on here. Never seen a hawk around here with a yellow looking head. Also he lives in the house I grew up in, right next to Monks Mounds(indian site) and the deer come out in the afternoon in the hundreds all spread out. Ita preservation site with no hunting. Its a neat sight to see.

Beautiful pics of the snow, Mel! Haven't ever seen a blackbuck before and imagine they aren't too comfy with the snow being from Nepal and India.
