All in all, it was a great rock hunt, even with the goofy things that went wrong.
Lesson learned......................NEVER make fun of a certain someone getting stuck in the sand!!
oh, also....I got a few more requests for rock boxes. Let me see how many boxes I can pack, after I ship out the paid requests, and I will let each person in PM order know until I run out. I will be going again so if you didn't get one this time, I will get you one next time. With my truck breaking down, I didn't haul out as much as I wanted. Scott allowed us to haul rock in his truck, but my containers were left in my broke down truck at the truck stop.

Sheri, thanks for getting photos posted so fast. Looks like you all had a great time! Well, except for the little problems... It started raining here (in San Diego area) about 5:45 this morning. The temperature is about 55 degrees, and they say it will only get cooler the rest of the day. Also later today, the winds will start to pick up, with gusts of up to 60 mph in the mountains. You've probably only got some high clouds right now, but you are in for a change! I think you are going to be glad that you did the expedition yesterday.
With temperatures expected to get below freezing the next couple of nights here, we emptied out all the water lines in our trailer, something we've never had to do before. I hope everyone out there stays warm and dry for the next couple of days. Jean

It was definitely fun as well as eventful...lol. Thank you to hulagrub and his wonderful wife for the ride to the site for Gypsy and I. I was only able to get a few pics with my cell phone before the battery died. I left my camera at home as usual. Glad Sheri got a few pics. Sheri's rig started overheating and smoking just as we pulled up to meet the other hounders. The guys in the group tried to get the Suburban back up and running and JC (Sheri's husband) brought parts but they couldn't get it to stop leaking and time was a wasting. ![](http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o129/sweetinmontana/DixiePeak/IMG_20130109_115850_zps75a6803a.jpg) ![](http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o129/sweetinmontana/DixiePeak/IMG_20130109_115855_zps28408c12.jpg) Luckily there was room in two other vehicles so we were able to double up and all of us head out for collecting after a 2 hour or so delay. But as we got near the site more mishaps lay ahead. The flat tire on Hulagrub's rig ![](http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o129/sweetinmontana/DixiePeak/IMG_20130109_134454_zps74279d53.jpg) I was going to take a picture or two of the area and the stuck truck but the battery on my cell phone died before I got down the hill. At least it was a nice day and we all came back with rocks.

Since I will be hounding in that area in a couple of weeks, the question I have is do I need to worry about tires? I have a Jeep, but I have DD tires, not off road. I've been in some pretty nasty areas as far as rocks (obsidian) but have never had a problem. Will I there?

If you are in a 4 wheel drive, especially something lighter than Charlotte's Sierra, just a good 10 ply tire should do it. These were the gumballs that came with her new truck, and we were having problems at home too, as we live on a flint ridge. BTW, yesterday we went to Sam's club in Yuma and got some 10 ply tires for her truck.

Looks like you guys are having a great time... besides buying tires, wish I could have been there.

Yup, got one of those in my "rock hunting car supplies" bag!
I think I'll go get a decent tire for my spare though, after reading that. I got good tires for the 4, but not the spare, previously . . .

We did not get a lot of pix during the hunt, but here are a couple. The first is from parking area, the second is a view on the way out! ![](http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af11/hulagrub/2013vacation045.jpg) ![](http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af11/hulagrub/2013vacation049.jpg)
