This was a practice piece I went and finished because it was looking OK. Still need to figure out the chain or cord. May buff highlights on the silver a bit more. Also, need to put some coating to protect from tarnish. I want the inner bezel wall a little thinner, the shell a little thicker, and a slightly larger cab. I think I know a coworker who might enjoy wearing this.

Man, what a wild piece of jewelry! What's the bezel made from? A copper pipe, my guess. What about the rest of it? Very interesting andoriginal. The metal work maches so well the pattern in the septarian.

Hi Adrian. The center is red brass. A tube might have helped. I cut a strip and soldered the ring, then shaped to round and textured.
The plan was to have the whole bezel taper inwards a bit, but I could not get the miter cut right. I have several oddly tapered rings to use on some other project.

A lot interesting going on there; lots of good ideas. I also like the prongs on the bezel.

Wow... you got a sun in the center! How big is it? Would you call it an amulet?

Thanks folks. The piece is 2 3/8" at the widest point. I have a lot of trouble designing proportions, but can look at something in my hand and have a good sense of the changes I would make. That is why this started out as a practice piece. I wanted to see how thick the center ring needed to be, what he best way to construct it was, and how the tabs were going to behave. I don't plan to try for this exact piece again (been there done that) but I did get a sense of what can be a little thinner, larger, thicker, smaller ... etc. I also think I might try not having the top edge of the center ring completely flat, but rather a little more eroded. I might try a different stone because it was painful to take off so much of the outer edge of the septarian nodule, but the piece would have been way to big otherwise. I had originally planned for more fold-forming definition in the silver, but the sheet was too thin. I took inspiration (e.g., float a sheet around a strong center bezel that utilized tabs) from a bracelet by Wendy Edsall-Kerwin I had seen on the internet: 01f33f8.netsolhost.com/Hammermarks/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Eyeball-cuff.jpg

Nice!! I loved reading your posts. I must say, though, you should go with your gut, you have great instincts. Don't overthink it. This is a great piece and just looking at it, I wouldn't change anything. It seems very cohesive to me, without a single thing jumping out and distracting from the whole.

That is a truly great creative piece!!! It reminds me of something that would have been worn in medieval times.

Charlie - The morocco septarian are all small walnut sized nodules with this kind of pattern. I think they are harder too.
A co-worker is making a multi-strand cord out of thin black leather, brown leather, and dark blue and hematite seed beads. I am keen to see what she comes up with. I told her the piece was hers if she wanted it.

Thanks Donnie. I wanted the ruin/chaos in the metal to reflect the fracturing that is part of septarian nodule formation.
I will post another pic when my friend gets the cord & beading done.

Oh yes, what rockjunkie said is true - go with your gut & don't overthink it. You have creative instincts, don't let your head get involved, just go with the flow & you will do just fine!
