So I've had a 10" slab saw for about 6 weeks now, and there have been too many times where my wife and I have said "I really wish we had a bigger saw..." for me to do nothing about it.
Here's the first problem: no room in the budget to buy one (even used)
Solution: I'll build it!
Second problem: I can't weld.
I already have a wood box to use as a tank, I just need need to seal it. According to my math, it can fit a 20" blade without adding to the depth. I'm thinking I'm going to go with a weight feed to keep things a little easier, but that doesn't take care of my main concern: the vise.
Is it possible for me to build a vise and crossfeed without welding any of it? Or is this doomed to fail? :help:

Yes it's possible. I could do it, but I couldn't really go into exact details there's too many variables---namely dimensions. You'll be doing a lot of drilling. Problem is since you have no design you could spend countless hours building what amounts to a useless piece of crap and have to start over. Also I hope you have a drill press?
I could build you the entire assembly, per my specs for $125+shipping. Which I realize you're not wanting to go this route and I am rather busy at the moment.
Also, even though I said I could build it without welding that's a project I will never do lol.

Something else to consider: 20" blade $150.00, motor $100, arbor and bearings and flanges $100 minimum, steel $100(have you considered the big shafts? if you dont have a steel shop your gona get raped), misc $100 easily if you pay attention to where the moneys going, you're now up to $550.00 for something that might not work that good. Unless your very mechanical you'd be better off saving your $ and being on the lookout for used.
