OK, so now its finally time to show what I was up to with the face and fireagate combo. A rather clumsy video of the mock up for now. 40 x 15mm. First minute somehow runs in slow speed and missing the tone. After that normal speed. The slow speed, while not intended, gives a nice look at the colors of this Fire Agate. Will have to drill a hole from top down behind the face to insert a silver rod and use that to create a bail. s1200.beta.photobucket.com/user/kainzerkurt/media/carvings%202012/carving%202013/DSCN8981_zpsc183f7a2.mp4.htmlJust in case the video does not work: here are two experimental pictures from today And Have a great week, Kurt

Sounds great Roy, looking forward to your results.
As for back-drop: I think I will play some more with it. I use the stump of the tree regularly as backdrop as it gives a good color-contrast and color-control in the pictures (the colors that I see in the monitor on the camera are not always what seems to show on the computer), and by chance saw this mushroom growing from it. Its the perfect size for this and the broken stump and bark gives an added flair to the overall idea without being overbearing.

;D Bravo, Kurt!! Kept my eyes peeled to see what you would make with "the mask," and I must say this is my favorite along with your spider and moth carving. The monk looks 'life-like.'

Thanks everyone, Orrum, keep going. FA is not easy, but when they work out in your favor, they are worth every minute of effort you have put in. This is how the other side looks like (as I got it and just before the final makeover) And my last attempts to get better pictures. I don't seem to be able to get stone and mirror image in focus at the same time. And one more try on the mushroom theme (at least here I got the stones in focus) Hmmm, there seems to be a problem with this pic on the forum. the link works for other places. OK, Facebook users can get the image here to until we sort out the problem with Photo-bucket. www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151231045934436&set=a.10151228192989436.461292.582189435&type=1&theaterBest regards, Kurt

That is incredible Kurt. Do you have photos of the all sides of the rough before you started carving? I am impressed how you used the white chalcedony and exposed the fire all the while creating form, outstanding.

Is the face part of the main stone? A white inclusion in the fire agate? Or did you glue some other stone for the face?
Anyway, amazing piece. Great eye to see such characters hidden in the stones.

Christopher: that's the only picture I still have and it's the one from the seller that made me buy that piece in the first place. Adrian : the space for the face was a natural formation in the stone filled with dirt. I just widened it a bit. The face itself is made of Turkish dendrite opal/agate ( hence the blue eye; it's a dendrite).

Thanks Kurt. I thought the face was part of the fire agate cap....now I see the dendrite....cool nonetheless.
