I haven't posted any pics recently so here goes. These are some pics of some hearts I had made before the weather turned wintry in ohio. I cut these with a tile saw, trimmed the "cleavage" with a dremmel disc, tumbled in my rotary 3# lortone with 120/220 ungraded grit and then finished in my Lot-O. These are really shiny but it doesn't seem to show well in my photos I would like to thank Beef, stardiamond, hand2mouth mining, slabcabber and probably some other I haven't mentioned for giving or selling some great slabs to work with. I thank all of you for advice I have gotten and really getting me inetrested in this great hobby over the summer. I have given a bunch away already (there is a bowl full of them near the entrance way of our house that I let anyone who comes over take a few) but here are some I have left. My secretaries are going to somehow put some of them in a display at our office (cardiology office) and I plan on keep making more to give away. Anyways, thanks for looking Bill Some of my favorites

Impossible to pick a favorite when they are all so darn good. The time you spend with the dremel cleaning up the "V" is well worth it. That's a whole lot of time at the trim saw.
Did these all tumble at the same time with ceramics? I had issues with multiple flat pieces like these sticking together in the lot-o.

Chuck,
These tumbled in small batches (about 10-15 at a time ) along with regular tumbling rocks- just mixed them all together.
I do use some plastic pellets in the rotary to cushion a bit. I only use ceramics if I don't have enough rock to fill a barrel.
They do stick together a little at times in the loto but not too bad. A little extra borax in each stage seems to help a little -but it may be just my imagination. thaks for your comments Bill

What a group you've created! Such a nice collection, only to be surpassed by what your secretaries create, I'm sure! You've really got the technique honed in on.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Forgot to thank Ed who makes the most incredible hearts as you all know. After seeing how perfect his hearts are I decided to go for a more "rough " appearance so I could hide my mistakes

Well thanks so much, Bill ! I been meaning to comment on your incredible crafting but life grind-- as gotten into the way of my rock grinding but its all back together-- heartily! It really is a fine process you've mastered I'd like to try to do this someday What is the clear heart crafted from? and I like your designing you really captured some great rock patterns in the heart shape!!! as far as my hearts being perfect ? well I always say the rock'n heart is not perfect but they are unique...mostly E

...What is the clear heart crafted from? .... E [/quote Ed I only wish I knew. I'm guessing it was a piece of clear quartz. It is incredibly clear though. there is just a tiny spec in the middle. I can see right though it without distortion but I don't think it is glass as the tumbling I put it through would have worn it way more. The funny thing is I dont remember cutting anything see through. It must have been really frosted. I think it was part of a scrap box of slabs I got somewhere on this board. I wish I had more. Thanks everyone Bill
