I got this 5 pound chunk about a year ago at an estate sale and I am pretty sure its made up of mica, feldspar, and quartz. Anyone out there have any information about where it might come from and if it has a name? thanks Chuck

Dang, I knew that one. I wanted to be the first to tell you. We collected some in the U.P. near Champion.

Starting to think I paid too much. Rob, we're you able to collect any or was it all those huge outcroppings?

I hammered a piece of the one in the picture and found one buried nearby. There is a rock shop in a woman's basement just down the road. She told me how to find it. Most of the loose stuff she had already dragged to her yard or basement and had pretty big price tags on them. The two foot rock in her yard was really cool. I'd love to have a big chunk for my yard.
It was in a very low marshy area on the side of a snowmobile trail. It looked like the area would be all muddy, but there were a bunch of boulders along the side of the road, some of which were pegmatite. There was no way to really explore the area without getting thoroughly wet and muddy.

Yosemite is made of granite, but it doesn't look like that though the ingredients are the same.
