So, I've been trying my hand at wrapping and I really enjoy doing it, but I have one problem that is on every one of my wraps.... the Ends!!!
what do you do with the end of the wire when it keeps catching on clothes or when you hold the piece you can feel the sharp end where it was cut. I've tried to hide it, but it doesn't work, I can still fell the small sharp, catch your skin/clothes on, edge of metal.
Are you guys filing it down or what??
thanx in advance.

Mario, I don't wrap (yet), but do work with wire. Yes, file the ends so they are smooth. You can get bur cups for rotary drills for this or do it by hand. Also tuck the wire end in somewhere where it cannot reach skin or clothing from the front or back.
Good luck with your experiments!

A really good flush cutter is a must. Then for any rough ends that you can't or didn't turn in toward your work, you can file with a needle file or use a cup bur like Pat said.

I end all my wire at the bail and the ones I leave long are looped at the ends and formed tight to the stone. On some wraps I will not have any looped wires but terminate them on the back on one of the retainer wires
all my wraps are in my booth if you want to look at my style of wrapping just click on the link at the bottom of my rely and go looking.
any that you want to see the back of let me know and I will post a picture for you

Hey Mario, flush cutters, good flush cutters are a requirement, just about, lol. But do you know the correct way to use them? there is a flush side and an angled side. The flat side of the 'flush' cutters should always be against the piece that you are working on. I still file the edges when I get down to the final cut of the wire, but before I curl it or hide it inside something.
Hope this helps, Tammy

Ditto. I also use a finger nail file with 7 different grits from rough to fine all in one , works good after file, and will polish wire nice!.............Hub
