That's nice! What faceting machine do you use? I just picked up a Ultratec V2 from someone who upgraded to an all digital machine. I still need to pick up some faceting laps before giving it a whirl.

Ultra Tec. I think it is the best. You can't go wrong with the V2. Put a dial indicator on it, if it doesn't have one already. Ray

The machine I picked up has a dial indicator on it already. Do you have any recommendations on lap grits and types? Did you taking a faceting class or learned on your own. Thanks! Justin

Beautiful stone, but I didn't notice a color change. The purple was deeper in the sunlight and weaker in the shade?

Justin, I learned to facet at The Charlotte School of Lapidary Arts. I use different laps for whatever stone I am cutting. But you probably will do lots of quartz to start. So, use a 320 then 1200 then 3000 and polish with cerium oxide. A great prepolish lap is a nubond 1200. Just replace the 3000 with it and it will make polishing a breeze. Toad, it is pink indoors with flourescent light bulbs.

The dial indicator is the greatest add-ons that you would ever use. The cuts are more precise and quicker. I just finished a piece of peridot cz that is perhaps the most accurate and best polish job that I have done.

Very cool! I would not have the patience to facet so I have great respect for those that do!
Czochralski or natural?
