Beware Johnson Brothers:last jan.2013 at the QIA Quartzite az show ,I gave 'chan', my 8 inch hex DP wheel for resurfacing.he said 'no need for a reciept'so got my friend as witness+pic. A Houston club member was there, and told me his club was very happy with J bros. re-surfacing diamond wheels,so I believed his words. SEVEN MONTHS later...my wheel is not shipped and spending my dime, via many calls,to 'CHAN", he used so many clever excusses that i could NOT begin to tell you.but the same excusses-almost exactly by another forum guy ,looks like 'Mongo' pic, tells me something is wrong. today chan actually sent me an e mail, after I cited this forum-via complaints and he did e mail me with an invoice/apolpgy and reduced prices on the wheel+ a new wheel his cost. Still,I told him-chan ,' I do not have any confidence in them and will see if the wheels arrive "in two days'...like chan said. Buy whatever you need at shows from j.bros, but beware their mail /net orders are totaly bizzar and welcome yourself to lapidary- "LIMBO". P S, chan told me "he does not own j bros" so who does and how does one contact them? ?

On the lighter-side; After just joining this site, you might see my works on flicker, doing unusual and fun photo collage of gems and minerals, which I hope to animate.I grew up in phoenix and was the lapidary/cutter at 'Mueller's gems-minerals,sixties era.Am now retired designer jeweler and using my former skills to make gemstone cartoons and characters.i still cut gems, but in a different way for the graphics and jewelry pieces.if permitted, the flicker ady is here: www.flickr.com/photos/96567283@N07/ thanks-all you folks for the info and other tidbits of rock conversations, nice to meet you. cheerz from DAWK

Thankx 'dave123',as I just found out there are only TWO guys running the J-B shop, and my problem was solved today,as I did finally get the two diamond wheels.the other guy named 'chan',apologised -we had a long talk about their many problems with only two personel-there,and struggling to promptly fill orders.I sent him to this site and he did read the complaints, and said he would rectify any-all complaints and apologised to all who were dissapointed. Chan sent me two NEW wheels,at his cost-no charge for shipping,so can not see holding a grudge ,will buy from them-again at the QIA show this winter. cheerz from DAWK

I'm glad to read you got things worked out. I have bought from Johnson Bros a couple of times and had always received good service from them so was surprised to read of the problems others have been having.

"Johnson Brothers" has been a reputed manufacturer & wholesale supplier of . 1. Rock-Rascal lapidary machines 2. Pro-Slicer diamond blades 3. SiC grits & Polishing Powders 4. Lube-Cool water soluble synthetic oil 5. ReSurfaced Diamond Wheels
for over 30+ years. We never sold to end users until after economy wend down in 2007-2008.
Retailing: Now we have added thousands of items in following categorIies for our retail operation. 1. Jewelry Display Supplies 2. Lapidary & Jewelry Tools
We are still not fully staffed & stocked-up to handle retail volume. Our delivery time is longer than normal & other internet suppliers, but our prices & quality is outstanding & unbeatable. So, if you can wait few more days, you will save a lot of money.
ReSurfacing: About 2 years ago, we started ReSurfacing Soft & Hard diamond wheels. Market seem to love our ReSurfaced Soft wheels. They are coming out better than new wheel. They outlast imported soft wheels by 2-4 times. Our ReSurfaced wheels are guaranteed. If you are not happy with our wheels for any reason, just return the wheels to us & we will give you full refund including shipping. No questions asked.
Customer Service: We, at Johnson Brothers, bend over backward & do everything in our power to keep customers happy. But sometimes you fail no matter what you do. Such is the case of our new customer & new member of this group

Following is our last email to him
Hi Don,
We never had Rock-Rascal combo shake due to bad bearing. We do not know what is wrong with your machine or the shaft you assembled.
We do not know what to do now. Sending you new bearings will not solve the problem. Looks like there is something else wrong with your assembling of the shaft & bearings.
Here is the Sequence of events: 1. Originally when you placed an order with me just for bearings, I warned you that it is a press fit bearings & you have to be careful. May be you should get full bearing assembly.
2. You ordered 2 bearing & a belt.
3. After few days you called back & said one of the bearings was wrong size (too small 1/2" instead of 5/8"). You ground down the shaft to make the bearings fit. Nobody would grind down or modify that much to make bearing fit the shaft.
4. It was your mistake to modify the shaft. I felt sorry for you & offered to give you a new shaft free along with 2 bearings (I did not have to do that).
5. Now you got the bearings, shaft & Dressing stick(free of charge - valued about $45.00 + free shipping), you are saying that machine shakes so badly. This is the first time we are hearing about machine shaking. Normally if bearing are bad, machine would be noisier than normal. When customer assembles machine we do not take responsibility for the assembly.
Sorry, but we are unable to help you anymore. We will just refund your full amount of $30.08. There is a number on the bearings. You may buy it from any other bearings supplier.

Sintered Wheels & Laps are Private Labeled for "Johnson Brothers" by a major US manufacturer. That is why they say Made in USA & our name on it.

I've used them. Prices were good, service was slow. I had a hard time connecting to the company via phone. The company was purchased from the founders in the last few years. Chuck I too have has serious problems with Johnson Brothers Lapidary. The only way to say this is...Johnson Brothers Lapidary customer service SUCKS~!!! They Do Not Do What They Say They Will....PERIOD! Sadly, Ed Johnson, who is a friend, sold the company to hindu bunch, who has ruined it's reputation. He is not happy about it~!! I don't see any point in discussing ethnicity of any of the new owners. If you think that certain ethnicity ore more or less honest, you are prejudiced. Different countries may have different degrees of regulation. Some cultures may be where we were not too long ago when all kinds of unregulated quackery went on right here in USA. ... BUT you cannot judge individual citizens and business people in this country by their ethnicity without being kind of a shit.

deb193redux - First. Hindu is a religion, not a race. Wikipedia disagrees with me. Modern usage says a Hindu is a citizen of India. I re-read sealdaddy's post three times and do not see anywhere in which the race of these folks is a factor in his opinion. In fact he went so far as to mention another company "Indian Jewelry Supply" that is clearly Hindu as well and he states: He said they are Hindu. He said their service sucks. He did not make the leap and say "their service sucks because they are Hindu". While I agree with your opinion, in this case it seems you have made a leap to get there.

Indian Jeweler Supply is an employee owned company. All are Native American Indians in Gallup and Albuquerque. IJS is now making their own Pro Slicer blades. Rumor I heard is the same process is used to manufacture.

IJS is an old company. The original owner wanted to retire and offered the company to his employees. I'm guessing the Indian in the name goes back to before the political correctness craziness.

A couple of weeks before Thanksgiving we shipped off all of the wheels on a Little Pixxy plus one more hard wheel off of a trim saw. It is the middle of Feb. and we still have no wheels. Johnson Brothers promised a three week return on all resurfaced wheels. It has been four months and still no wheels even though we have tried to contact them several times. We got two replies. One reply said they were overwhelmed with orders and the other said the wheels were in the mail. We now know that they LIED to us so now we do not trust anything they say or do. You make a conclusion for yourself, we did. These machines belong to responsible Junior Rockhounders and many were not able to finish special Christmas Presents. They will never get another thing from Johnson Brothers and urge all others to do the same. Valkruzer (Grandpa Gary)

Rumors here (Tucson) say they are telling people the "machine is broken". Also rumors the company may be for sale. Also they keep moving because they are electroplating blades but can't get a permit to do it.

Rumor I heard is the same process is used to manufacture. IJS is in deep doo doo. They closed their manufacturing facility, and are no longer making anything. No stamped trinkets, no blades, nothing. The auction of all their stuff is this coming wednesday. The stores where they sell stuff are still open, but.... they've laid off most of their employees there too. auction: linkAnd I too have nothing good to say about the Johnson Bros. A place with good prices is Kingsley.....
