I am getting ready to order a bunch of supplies and was wondering if anyone has used this website and if so how was it? The prices look good I just want to make sure the quality and service is ok. www.johnsonbrotherslapidary.com/index.htmlThanks Chuck

Just did a search myself and found some bad reviews on old posts here so it may not be worth the savings - bummer.

I don't know about their web business. The company has been around a long time, and I used to see them at some shows. They had a mail-order catalog at one point. I guess I'm just saying they are not a come lately web-only company operated out of someone's garage.

I go in person and the gentleman working the desk is very helpful. I'd simply call in the order.

I've used them. Prices were good, service was slow. I had a hard time connecting to the company via phone. The company was purchased from the founders in the last few years.

We live a few miles from Johnson Bros and buy supplies from them regularly. The prices are really good. I know that it is difficult to get them on the phone, there is only 2 people in the office. I will be going over there on tuesday. I would be happy to mention you to them, as a member of our club. If that would be ok with you.

Thanks so much for the offer Cheri. I was not ordering enough to make a big difference this time so I went ahead and ordered from Kingsley north. Johnson Brothers prices do look very good though so this is all good information to have.

Hi, Chuck!
Even though you went ahead and ordered supplies from Kingsley North, I wanted to let you know that I've purchased several belts from Johnson Brothers but waited a very long time to receive my order. Found out that one of the belts I ordered was out of stock.
Was not very happy that I was not contacted that the belt was on backorder, and that I had to contact them via e-mail and telephone to find out why there was a delay in delivery.
I think it's a great place to purchase lapidary supplies as far as prices, but I would contact them to make sure the item is in stock before ordering.

I have been happy with what I've purchased from them at shows.

We bought several diamond wheels from them. Never again. When we try and use the hard wheel to grind agate, you can feel the diamonds coming off and hitting your skin. Bare spots on the wheels are showing up everywhere. We're going to go back to Covington or DP where we know we'll get quality - more grind for our buck. Phil

Wow, Phil, sure hope you returned the wheels and received a refund. Have not ever heard of diamonds flying off of wheels before until reading your post.

I been to there shop, I only live a few miles away, never had any problem with them.
When you buy wheels get new ones, not the one they put diamonds back on the old wheels.

I was about to order diamond wheels from them becuase they are USA made and reasonably priced, then I found out that Eloxite seels diamond wheels made in USA also. Eloxite's are less expensive also. They both come in at 2/3 the price of Nova wheels, similar to the imported ones from Kinglsey North.
Johnson brothers were quick to get back to me. That's the only experience I can speak to. Steve

I placed an order with them on 2/19. I verified with them that all items were in stock and they said yes and would ship asap. I had not received the package yet so called them on 3/1 and they said they had just shipped it that day. I checked mail today 3/11 and no package so I call them and now they tell me they are out of a certain size belt and they have not shipped my package yet. Needless to say I have cancelled the order. How do people like this stay in business???

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm a happy customer of rocklady1 for hard diamond wheels.

JR that sux. Coming from a business man like you it is specially poignant.
I have placed orders with you twice and both times promises were kept exactly as made. So when you know you do this, it must be EXTRA frustrating. You take care of your people, why can't others? Sux for sure.

I too have has serious problems with Johnson Brothers Lapidary. The only way to say this is...Johnson Brothers Lapidary customer service SUCKS~!!! They Do Not Do What They Say They Will....PERIOD ! I have been waiting for something from them for a month and a half after they promised me on the phone I called them after 2 weeks and asked "what was up"? They said, "You didn't receive it? We'll ship it again" 2 weeks later I called again, with the same question...Where is it? They said the package came back "undeliverable"~!!...But had forgotten to tell me. I asked where they had addressed it to, and they read and spelled my name, street address, city and zip code, exactly right. So they said they would send it through UPS, and email me the tracking number, which they did email me. That was a week ago, but every time I tracked the number they emailed me, it say, "shipment has not arrived at the UPS facility". So, I just called JBL again, they said they'd call UPS and inquire, and would call me back in 15 mins, or less. 2 hours later I called them back and was told he'd called them, and UPS told him that the driver must NOT have scanned my package when picking it up from JBL, But UPS told him they looked in their system, it was on it's way, and should arrive in 2 days. SHOULD I BELIEVE THEM? ?

I have had that happen with packages, sometimes the tracking doesn't show anything till the package shows up at the house. As far as J Bros I have purchased from them at shows and always a happy customer, though having met them I can see how they may not be the tops when it comes to internet sales, especially when on the road all summer.
