Anyone interested in doing a group buy? I have been talking with a supplier out of South Africa that has Tourmaline Aqua (Milky and Cat's eye) Chrysocolla Sodalite Tiger Eye Amethyst Aventurine Amazonite Rose Quartz Sodalite
With a minimum package of 20-30kg (44-66 lbs), way more than I can use. He will get me prices, but needs to know grades and uses of what we would want.

What experience have you had with this supplier? How can one see some pics of what he has along with prices? Stu

I would be interested in most of it, but would need references from the seller and from you...nothing personal, bit who are you??.... most people get at least 50 posts in the forum before they start looking to sell anything so people can get to know them. I can't spend good money on someone I know nothing about.

Better be VERY careful, this last I heard, Africa was not allowed to ship out rough. Only finished pieces or it is smuggled out. They partially finish some rough sometimes to get it shipped but I don't think there is very much of it. I could be wrong but I sure would check it out first!

Thanks for the response everyone. I understand the concern. Be assured that should we go forward that I would use a form of payment that would allow those involved a reasonable amount of recourse should it not pan out (paypal for example). That being said here is the web site www.matrixmining.comFrom what I understand they typically deal in large purchases, so consumer reviews may not be too easy to come by. I don't want to talk anyone into it. Lets just forget it and move on if no one wants to risk it.

That being said, Africa has no government and therefore no ability to limit exports. The individual countries on the continent of Africa can and do make their own laws. African country's laws are weird. I am told malachite is no longer sent out of Zaire, but the same Zaire malachite is available thru South Africa. Probably because it is easier to police airplanes and boats than trucks. I saw the same stuff in the reptile biz. Nothing new. The nations of Africa are all corrupt.

That company is being run by a dude named Martin Bremer. It seems the company was established in 2001. This longevity is basically meaningless. He could be a bit player projecting a large persona for a long time. Or he could be totally legit. Very difficult to tell.
Mike have you spoken to this chap?

Mike maybe I am missing something I don't see any prices on the website. I am sure that you are a great guy but with you only being on the forum since November and with the seller being another unknown I think I will stay on the sidelines with this one. There are some really great, known and trusted sellers right here on RTH. Best of luck

Guys lets just pass. I am good with that, no hard feelings, no worries. Honestly the skepticism with the seller enough to pass on it add to it that I am a new member...
