The piece on the left is like nothing I have seen so far. Before I tumbled it it had a little more wood on the one side and was easy to see it was wood ,but the rest of it is a metallic looking material with many pockets filled in with quarts. They are bonded and I have never seen that dark shiny stuff in that form and with wood in it.. The small stone on the right has a similar luster when hit by light but is hard to see here. And is some type of sedimentary stone I think.. Attachments:

Looks a lot like the road gravel I pick up here in N.E. South Dakota for tumbling mix. Same basic colors.

Yeah not very good pic ...It is defiantly more interesting than "road gravel" ... maybe I'll try sun light to get better contrast...

N.E. South Dakota "road gravel". Petrified wood brought to the area by the last ice age, and broken to tumbling size by mother nature. From a gravel pit about 2 miles N.E. of me.

Oh hahaha yeah that is so similar to my pile of petrified wood and our "road gravel" it would be really hard to tell them apart... When you said road gravel, I'm not even sure why but I pictured a suburban parking lot ... my mistake.. so you have seen others like that piece? Cuz that is the only one I have that is like that one ,most of that piece doesn't look like wood, more like opalized metal. It's just a little confusing to me...

Right on man thanks for the encouragement. I kind of got a little worried my stones might not be up to snuff for most here after seeing some of the collections some folks have here. I'll keep my head up and keep posting my unknowns. I'm loven this little community of helpful hounds. Thanks again see you around..
