Hi, All- I just pulled out my UV-18 after a long hiatus, and discovered that somehow the all-thread that serves as the spindle for the bowl is bent. Replacing the all-thread isn't a big deal, but as I disassembled the platform that the bowl sits on, I discovered that the bottom foam pad is covered with some type of double-sided adhesive sheeting. I also see that all of the bolts/nuts and the large washer have all been sealed with what appears to be a clear silicon sealant. I found some 3M mounting sheeting online, but I wasn't sure if that's what I need. I was also hoping if someone could tell me if the silicon (so I think it is, anyway) is just a basic silicon caulking, or if it's something special. Is there anyone who has disassembled and reassembled a UV-10 or 18 that could give me some insight on this? Thanks a TON for any help!

Okay, apparently no one had gone through this before. I'll just throw this out in case anyone ever works on their own Ultra-Vibe units and has similar questions. Once taking the unit apart (which was easy aside from getting the large washer off the base of the platform that lies underneath the bottom foam piece, on which the bowls rests. I did find that applying a little heat from a blowtorch helped loosen the silicon sealant that is put on likely for waterproofing to protect the motor and to help nuts/bolts from vibrating loose), I removed the bent spindle (all-thread) and replaced it with a like-sized piece I cut from stainless all-thread. I bolted it all back together, then used a tube of 100% clear silicon multi-purpose sealant designed for doors, guttering, etc. I applied a little bit to each connecting point of the nuts/bolts, and then completely coated and smoothed it over the much of the top of the vibrating platform (pretty much like it was coated before disassembly). The most critical place seems to be where the spindle penetrates the platform and where the bolts that hold the motor come through the platform. After letting the silicon dry for a good 24+ hours, I then took the Foam base that sits under the bowl (I had carefully removed it during disassembly) and sprayed some Permatex multi-purpose adhesive spray (I picked it up at an Auto-zone) liberally across the entire surface of the foam. The foam still had some type of OEM adhesive sheeting stuck to it, but I sprayed right over it with no problems. I placed the foam piece onto the platform and held it there with firm pressure for about 5 minutes. I then worked my way around the foam piece continually pressing down firmly to make sure the foam was making the best possible contact. I think placed the bowl on the foam and lightly tightened it to help keep pressure on the foam over night. The next morning I took off the bowl and checked the foam and it is very secure. Voila! worked like a charm and really only took maybe an hour of actual labor. Maybe that will help someone in the future. If not, it sure didn't hurt anything.

I`ve replaced the threaded rod un my UV-10 about every year for the last few years. Grit gets into the threads and evetually the nuts stip the threads.
I shredded my foam pad when trying to remove it, and replaced it with two layers of adhesive cork from Michaels. It works, is affordable, and readily available aty most craft stores.

Sorry for not seeing this post earlier....I have torn apart both of my uv -10s and replaced everything....It is basically caulk/silicone...But in an effort to help the bowl last,I found a carpet tile with rubber sponge base....I cut a piece a little more round as the base of the vibe and peeled of the carpet off and it added about another 1/2 inch of cushion . It helps with the flexing on the edges and wearing out .....JOhn

I didn`t see this in time either or I could have told you to do exactly what you did! ;D I have dealt with rebuilding vibes before. They are all basicly the same. I use a vibe unit from Harbor Freight that I replaced motor and springs on. And added a 5" fan on the shaft to keep the motor cool in Texas summers in my garage. It sounds like you did a great job!
