seven bucks a pound don't seem bad but usually the big chunks catch a price break. looks like about 10" long so whats the yield? about 20-25 slabs maybe? you would almost have to get $10 per slab to break even? tough call.
It has a make offer option and $165 would seem fair to put it at $6 per pound.
Looks like a beautiful piece and real solid by the way.

I think lower then $6/lb. It is not a $10/lb material. It is $6-$8/lb at best, and you want a discount for 27lbs. I am not sure the seller would go for $5/lb, but that is what I would offer.

More than I'd pay - but I'm just a tumbler...

It's in the ballpark, but I think the seller hit a foul ball with his price.

Doughboy's prices have went up quite a bit lately. I do not buy from him anymore. His prices was once good untill he got some attention. Just my opinion.

I don't know exactly which hill doughboy pulls this stuff out of, but the stuff that I rockhound for that is very similar is usually so flawed it's extraordinarily difficult to cab. (full of spiderweb fractures, pits and soft spots) Needless to say, I wouldn't pay $200 for it unless I could see it and take a slab off of it first to evaluate the quality. It sure is pretty looking rough though. at 22 lbs I'm sure you could get something out of it.

I wouldn't pay that much... I have gotten larger rocks for less than that myself... although I have never heard of that name before.. I think the $6/lb is a fair price because it takes more effort to make it usable. just my opinion.

It looked pretty fractured to me, too. Really apparent if you zoom in on the 2nd and 3rd pics.

Got it and am sending it back. He takes absolutely great close-up shots, but I had to use a 10x loupe to see the same detail. And it had two major fractures and some vugs.

I told him I valued the rock between $3-4/lb and he offered to refund the dif to $3.50/lb - I took him up on it and he did. I'm happy.

beef - I have 16" that should do it...waiting for warm weather to set it up. deb - one end will break off with a light touch of a hammer and I'll cut the other end square so it should fit the vise for a 5 inch x 5-6 inch slabs. It would be about 6 inches wide so I'm looking at 8-9 slabs off the main piece - another 8-9 3x3-4 slabs off the hammered end and another 5-6 4x4s off the sawn end - if I'm lucky

glad that worked out. It does not fix the fact that he way over valued the material to start with but the outcome was better than paying return shipping.
At $3.50 a pound you really can't go wrong since good tumbling rough costs that much or more.
Hope to see some great slabs out of that one.

Chuck - you always price high on Ebay so you have room to move if you have to.
