how many of you had the pleasure of watching the old travel channel show Cash and Treasure? This was my sons absolute favorite show ever (he was about 10 when they aired). Each episode would involve going out and finding/mining gemstones such as amethyst, aquamarine, lake superior agates, opal and so on then in each every episode concluded with slabbing, grinding, faceting or what ever it took to make them worth more money and they always gave a value of what they found that day too. They had about 40 episodes and I still have about 20 of them saved on my computer if theres any interest? If I remember correctly all the episodes are in the united states too.

I remember it also, but the emphasis always seemed to be how much the find was worth which made every tom dick and harry go out and start looking for rocks, even if they really had no interest. I attribute alot of the closing of public lands to that show because lots of people who have no interest in rocks would go out looking for "free money" and alot of those people did not follow true rock hound principles like hauling out trash (even if it is someone else's), not collecting on someone else's claims, filling in holes, being respectful of the land, etc.
I liked the show but I did not like the end where everything was worth hundreds of dollars. I know that some of them were staged, I have a friend who was in the show and the piece that was featured at the end of the show did come from his claim but it was not dug on the day that the show was filmed nor was it dug by the cash and treasures crew. I have heard rumors of the holes being salted before filming also, but those I cannot verify.
Oh well, I will shut up now........................Tony

Tony, I see your point but it sure did wonders for sparking interest in my kids. Yeah they did emphasize the money part too much but for us at the time it showed us lots of really neat things we never knew were possible to go out and dig for here in the states. When we watched them we had no equipment at all and were fascinated by all the saws and grinders they were using to turn rocks into gems and never imagined a few years later having the equipment and doing it ourselves.
I figured I would offer it to anyone interested especially those with kids since I know mine loved it.

I used to love that show! My favorites were the Herkimer Diamond episode and Jade Cove.

At one point, we almost had them convinced to do an episode on hunting Fairburn agates. We had guides lined up for them and the whole ball of wax.

The Herkimer Diamond episode was my sons favorite too but I don't have that one saved. We had them all on dvd but they were getting scratched so I transferred what I could to the computer.
here is a good example what the show was like on youtube

If I remember correctly, when they came to Arkansas to hunt for diamonds, they did not find any. However they interviewed people that did and had pictures of collections found at Crater of Diamonds. Darn, I thought that gave them credibility.

Don; would you be so kind as to ask Kirstin if she is aware of any online source for the episodes? I can find none. Just a few short youtube clips. Plenty of listings of the episodes and their topic, no full length videos. I even checked hulu.
Anybody know Becky? She was the original host of the show.

Tony;
This "salting" of the set for shows like this is normal for TV production. It is no secret and most (I think) know it is happening. Hunting is uncertain business and the a television show to be successful they need results So, they salt the hole or use a captive snake. Steve Irwin rarely found a wild reptile on his show. 99% were captives from his zoo or from his colleagues collections.
A real good production team should be able to make a terrific show out of the pursuit and accept the results, bad or good. But, they do not. Well, that is except for Tred Barta.

Actually Scott, you have it backwards. Kirstin was the first Cash and Treasures girl. I haven't heard from her in over a year, but she hasn't cancelled her membership in the Treasure Hunting wiki. I'll see what I can find out about getting both season one and two on DVD's. Here's a good place to start. search.travelchannel.com/travel/cash-and-treasures-episodes/index.html

ok, now you got me wondering because this is what I read online and how I remember it but was a few years ago so .....
this is from wikipedia but hey it would not be the first false info I have gotten there.
Season 1 – Cash & Treasures Cash & Treasures (also written as Cash and Treasures) was a half-hour weekly American documentary reality television series that aired from 2006 to 2007 on the Travel Channel. The program followed and starred Becky Worley as she traveled around the world to hunt a wide range of undug "treasures", including precious metals, gemstones, minerals, seashells, fossils, artifacts, antiques, and relics.
Season 2 – Treasure Hunter: Kirsten Gum In 2008, Cash & Treasures changed its name to Treasure Hunter: Kirsten Gum and stayed on the air through the end of 2009. The show was not renewed for 2010 and was entirely dropped from the broadcast TV lineup.
